The Digging into Data Challenge
The Digging into Data (DiD) Challenge is an international grant competition cosponsored with the Joint Information Systems Committee from the United Kingdom, the National Science Foundation from the United States, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council from Canada.
The DiD Challenge aims to answer questions like these: What can researchers do by analyzing a
million books, or a million newspapers, or a million photographs of works of art, that they could
not do before? Because of advances in computer technology, it has become possible to analyze
massive numbers of cultural artifacts. How do and how should those advances affect humanities and
social science research?
Applicants will form international teams from at least two of the participating countries and can
potentially receive grants from two or more of the funding agencies. Further information can be
found on the competition Web site.
