Grant Program
Fellowship Programs at Independent Research Institutions
This program supports research centers and international research organizations that offer long-term fellowships (of four to twelve months) to postgraduate scholars undertaking advanced research in the humanities. To be eligible, an institution must be independent of institutions of higher education and must already administer a fellowships program. Awards support the funding of fellowships for one to three years. Individuals seeking a fellowship at an institution supported by this program must apply directly to the institution. A list of institutions offering NEH-supported fellowships can be found here: http://www.neh.gov/projects/fpiri.html.

RA-50041, American Academy in Rome:
Post-Doctoral Fellowships in the Humanities
.
In 2006 the American Academy in Rome (AAR) received an NEH grant providing support for six fellowships to individual scholars, over a period of three years. These fellowships support research on topics related to Italy and Mediterranean culture, from antiquity through modern times. Recent fellows at the Academy have studied the death of Socrates, translated Seneca’s tragedies, and analyzed women’s writings in Fascist Italy.
